Trip Overview
This small group hiking trip offers guests the opportunity to climb one or more of Taiwan's "Top 100 Peaks" over 3,000 meters in elevation. Known as the "Bai Yue", these high-mountain climbs have become something of a bucket list experience for hikers around the world. The best part about this hiking area is that these trails require no high-mountain permits and are the most accessible and arguably the easiest "Bai Yue" to hike in the country.
Departing from Taichung High-Speed Train Station, private transportation will take guests directly to the trailhead of Hehuanshan's North Peak. From here guests will join our guide and hike up to Hehuan North Peak with an approximate elevation of 3422m! This trail is just over 4km (return) and includes just over 500m in elevation gains. We are estimating about 4 hours for climbing and descending this moderately difficult trail as a group. It is a steep climb over a short distance and is suitable for those who are moderately fit. The elevation can have an impact on one's hiking pace.
After the group has come down, the bus will be waiting for us to take the group to the Hehuanshan Lookout. At this location, guests will have access to restrooms and a shop with a small selection of drinks and food. Guests can stay and enjoy a time to relax or they will have a choice of hiking one of two (if time allows, both can be ascended) trails.
1) Shimenshan - This peak has an elevation of 3237m and a total distance of just over 1.6km. The elevation gains on this trail total about 115m. This is the longer of the two secondary peaks the group can choose to climb after North Peak. Shimenshan is also another of Taiwan's Bai Yue. The estimated time to climb up and return is about 45 minutes, potentially faster/slower depending on one's capabilities. This is the harder of the two hikes available for guests in this area.
2) Hehuanshan Point - Although not officially listed as one of Taiwan's Bai Yue, Hehuanshan Point is located at an elevation of 3,217m and the trailhead is right behind the service area. this steep rocky mound is the quickest to ascend, taking about 10 minutes to reach the top. From the northern side, a series of stairs takes you directly to the summit. From here, guests will have a chance to take in the awe-inspiring views across the mountains and rugged landscape. Heading back down, the trail is steep and when dry, the trail surface can be a bit loose and slippery. Please take your time and use caution. The total distance for this trail is 900m (return) and should take guests between 20-40 minutes in total.
